The part of the human brain that uses, understands %26 interprets spoken language is quite well developed. In dogs, it is not. They don't have the brain structure to enable them to ever understand language. When a dog is taught a command, it learns to relate the sound with the action. It never truly understands the meaning of the word itself. It just knows that when it hears a sound, it gets a good reaction when it does something in turn. They also live a completely different life to humans - human concepts of thought, perception %26 emotion are alien to dogs - even if they COULD understand your words, chances are, they'd never understand what you're actually talking about.
Your dog will never be capable of understanding you the way dogs in movies like Lassie do. They do understand body language quite well, as this is one of the main ways dogs communicate with each other. You'll find that your dogs takes more cues from your actions than your words.
I think though, that if dogs had brains more like those of humans, they'd probably start judging us like other humans do - and that, afterall is what we love about dogs - they dont' judge us. They like you if you're kind, and fear you if you're not. No human relationships are this easy, or often, this rewarding!
just keep alking to him he will learn to understand
ummm. jus talk to them in english i guess. why? do they understand other languages?
Speak to him in english. I dont know how much dogs actually understand. I mean I dont think they can understand a complete conversation. But dogs arent born "english","spanish","french" just like babies arent they pick up what is spoken around them. And to prove this you can take a french born baby adopt it into a spanish speaking home and it will grow up speaking spanish. Same with a dog a dog born in Spain can be brought to the US and only hear english so never know what words spoken in spanish mean
animals communicate telepathically, the best way for you to communicate with your dog is to visualize what you are trying to say, this may be hard for you at first but with practice you may even be able to "understand" him
well, you're never going to be able to do it. Even the words we THINK dogs understand really have no meaning to them outside of a specific context. Words are auditory behavioral cues to them. Your dog doesn't really "understand" "sit", he just knows it is the sound you make when you want a specific behavior.
you can make up words to train your dogs...it doesn't matter. To them it's just sound. My dogs all respond to commands in english, spanish and creole,,,but they really don't understand a word of it.
the whole point of using real words in training is to make it easy for people to remember...it just doesn't mean anything to a dog other than what you have conditioned him to respond to.
