Getting New Puppy Costs Help!!?

I am getting a mixed black lab puppy and I was needing some info on costs. I live in Missouri if that matters at all. I have no clue how much it costs to do shots and treatments. Any advice or help is great!
Answers:
I just adopted another dog from the pound (an 8mo black lab,) and this is about what the costs have been so far...
Supplies (bowls, leash/collar, tags, toys, etc.) $70
Fees from pound and city registration $85
Vaccines $150
Revolution - 6 mo supply $90
Neuter (haven't done it yet, b/c he was sick) estimate is $250
Food $40 for the month
Crate $70
Emergency cost (my dog had picked up kennel cough from the pound and required a lot of care and medicine) Running total so far on that $500
Good luck!
well if you are adopting the dog(which i assume since its a mix) then the dog should already be up to date on shots, vaccines, and already neutured
make an appointment with a vet and they should be able to tell you what the dog will need(such as heartworm treatment, etc.)
It all depends exactly what your dog will need. If money is any kind of issue- you should not get a dog. You should be able and willing to spend around $500 yearly on your pup and maybe more when it gets sick.
You can go to petfinder.com and you can see available dogs near you.
Most places have adoption fees of around $250, unless you go to a pet store %26 then it'll cost a LOT more.
I think the first set of shots, worming medicine and heartworm pill was roughly $75. You have to take your puppy back for a couple rounds of shots, and then you have to get them fixed at around 6 months which costs a couple hundred dollars.
I'd suggest getting a dog food that's holistic, definitely something that doesn't have corn filler. Holistic foods are much better for your puppy's coat, their teeth, their digestion, etc. They cost a little more, but the dog will go potty less %26 they'll actually eat less food than with other dog foods - so a bag of food will last longer even though it may cost more. My dogs eat canidae, and EVERY time we go to the dog park people run up to my puppy to comment about how soft and shiny his beautiful coat is %26 how he's got the best set of teeth they've ever seen.
We spent just on normal vet visits the first year was about $350, it was $480 to remove a tumor, $250 to get spayed, $150 in antibiotics for kennel cough/eye infection/giardia, and about $30 a month in flea meds/heart worm meds.
We buy a good food - Canidae - she eats about 20lbs ($25) every month. Toys now that she is over a year runs about $15 every 3 months.
I would also make sure that you have access to about $1000-$2000 to cover any emergencies - like your dog eat something and it gets stuck and it needs surgery.
Ok, let's see, first time shots could go for around $100 that's including everything even the Tag for Rabies. After that providing your dog is healthy, and he will be, is mostly maintenance. Make sure he eats right and at least as preventive medicine when you take him or her for her yearly shots have lab work done to make sure everything is OK. I have one that is Diabetic and one with Allergies and we found out by doing blood work so is recommended.

The best thing to do is call a couple of local vets for comparison prices - as costs can vary from vet to vet.
Here are some expenses to ask about:
General exam
Office Visit
vaccinations - complete series (add in the office visit charges too)
de-worm - at least 2 treatments (add the office visit charge plus lab fees)
Spay/Neuter
Heartworm prevention
Obedience classes - from a certified trainer, please
Toys - a KONG is great
leash - a 6' long flat leash plus a 20' long flat "training" leash (Do NOT get one of those silly "retractable" leashes - rubbish)
bed (mine sleeps with me)
bowls - water and food
puppy formula food (12 months worth)
training collar
flat collar
Remember that Fido will grow - so you'll have to replace his collar at least once during his puppyhood.
I'm from STL and I heave a black lab mix , banfield has free exams on Saturdays not sure what the hrs are but you can call them It usually costs around $180.00 to $220.00 depending on if you get the hart worm medicine and if you decide to get the rabies shot for 2 yrs or 1 yr. 1 yr costs less then 2 yrs one so it's up to you .
it depends of type of dog different cost
from mongrel cheap to toys expensive n i live in engand so it wont help but give you an idea lol
Look for your local Petsmart they usually have a Banfield pet hospital in their store or go to the Banfield website to search for one near you..

or to get more info on the insurance program go to....

They are wonderful. I have my dogs registered with them. It is $29.95 a month and it covers all shots/periodic check ups/ and emergency vet visits (I'm sure there is a deductible for emergencies.) For $10 more a month it will cover dental cleanings and dental care. Look up their website and get the info and look for one in your area. They even remind you when appts are due and give discounts on reoccurring pet meds like heart worm preventative and flea control. Enjoy your new baby!
And, NO, I do not work for them I just recommend for those companies I like.
$150 for complete series of puppy shots (3 distemper 1 rabies)
$60 for flea and tick topical medicine
$30 stool sample exam -- should be done to ensure dog doesn't have worms
$20 dewormer if dog does have worms
$60 for heartguard (year supply)
$120 for neutered at 6 months
$40 bag of food
$30 leash and collar
$15 food bowls
$40 crate
And misc other costs.
ask your vet and go to petfinder.com
These are general prices, but:
Veterinary exam $45
Spay/Neuter $125
Vaccinations $40
Rabies vaccine $25
Heartworm test $30
Microchip $45
Heartworm preventative $30
Fecal test for worms $20
Worming (standard) $25
Kennel Cough Treatment $35

That doesn't include crates, toys, leashes, collars, bowls, food, etc.
Just a reminder that there's no such thing as a "free" dog!
