Going to lose my dog which i only just got!?

he was lost and thank god i found him. he is located at some kennels but they wont release him unless i pay fees which i cant do. i read they only hold them for 7 days then i cant ever get him back. is it true.
Answers:
Yup. And if you can't afford his kennel fees, what would you have done if he'd been hit by a car and needed surgery.
Hopefully he'll find a better home that won't let him run loose and can afford to look after him.
Can't you arrange to pay in installments? Do they even allow that?? Or what about a friend or family member - can they not lend you the money and you pay them back! That is bad what they are doing but unfortunately they are allowed to get away with it!
He's probably in a shelter, got picked up by animal control or someone found him and brought him there. Yes, that's common for them to charge a fee. And, yes they can turn around and adopt him out, or worse put him down. I'd try to scramble up the money to bail him out, then be sure he doesn't escape again. Good luck!
People's financial situations can change very quickly, I wish some would stop being so judgmental before jumping to conclusions..
yes it is true. You will have to reimburse them for the money they have spent trying to feed him. If you really love the dog you will pay the fees and take better care of himnext time. good luck though.
It depends on the state you live in, if they say they only keep them 7 days I suggest you do whatever it takes to get the money for your dog, because after the 7 days are up they will euthanize your dog to sleep which means they will end its life. Which is sad, but good luck! borrow money pls! I don't want anything bad to happen to any animal.
Yes, they don't care how you get the money, they won't hold your dog any longer. It is almost the weekend, how long has he been jailed? If you have the weekend left, get as many people you know together with donated stuff to sell to have a save (your dog's name) yard sale and use that money to bail her out. Put up flyer's at all the petstores or vet's offices you can, if you can't get there call, someone might be able to help you get your dog before it is too late. Put signs up all over your neighbourhood Let me know if this helps.
And you know, if he had been hit by a car, then you would deal with that too, how sad, people can lose their jobs after years of having a dog or kids - for crying out loud and they or should I say we as a society didn't do it on purpose and need support not attacks on the situation.
If not for the grace of God - go you. Right?
The question was asked for HELP, not to be attacked ~ please people, do something good and stop having the audacity to criticise people when they are down.
How can you afford to keep a dog if you can't even pay that?
He is at some kennels?Or he is at the SPCA or animal control? If he is just at some kennels I'd call the police and ask what your options are- that sounds strange. More likely he is at animal control/SPCA. Go to them and explain your situation. Offer to make some sort of payment plan. Offer to pay it off in volunteer hours. They are there to help your dog- they will not be too unreasonable I think. Talk to family and friends- see if people will lend you like $5 each- it adds up. Put it on a credit card (though you sound like you're a kid- in which case I don't understand why your parents just don't pay or loan you the money). That can be true- the SPCA give owners as little as 3 days to claim their dog or it is adopted out or even euthanized.
Miley/Hannah rox!- yeah it's his dog and he paid for it but he didn't stop it from getting lost. It got lost and animal control found it- they have to pay their workers, for the shelter, for food, medicine etc. That's like saying "I bought a car and parked it wherever I wanted- now it's towed and I shouldn't have to pay for the towing and impounding because it's my car and I paid for it"
How much are the fees? I think you need to try to pay the fees.. but it does seem a bit unfair that they just said you have to pay because you lost your dog. Well, maybe he could've gotten hit by a car but still... Please try to get her back somehow? I think it's true. I'm really sorry. Hope you get him back!
its different for each one. call and ask them. you gotta get your dog back.
Very likely if you don't get your dog out in that time, they have the right to find him a new home.
Very true, this pet will most probably be uthnized after 7 days if not adopted.Ask them if you can pay payments on the bill? You don't have much choice if you want to recover your pet.You may ask a friend to call the place and ask what the adoption fee is,it may be cheaper than the fees they're asking from you,and have the friend adopt him for you.
i hate to say it, but that is the importance of keeping your dog on a leash..i don't think they would lie to you about the 7 days..they only have so much room in their kennels to keep dogs. if you can't pay the fee unfortunately they will find someone who can and who will be a little bit more responsible with the care of the animal. sorry, i hope you find the money.
What do you mean, if you don't pay you can't get him back!?
What do they plan to do with him after the 7 days? They are talking rubbish and they can not hold your dog to ransom. Any animal sanctuary would rather give a pet back to his owner than to destroy it.
Battersea Dogs Home in London should be able to advise you on this. Look them up and call them NOW
WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A DOG IF YOU DONT HAVE MONEY!
i hope the new owner is a better person then you, broke *** *****.
Yes you will have to pay fees - if you really care about your dog you would pay them whatever the cost for having your dog found safe and well - I am sure one of your family or friends would loan you the money for a short term to pay the fees and to enable you to collect the dog
I think it is true but i hope it is not. I mean that is your dog that you payed for.
If you really tried, you could probably scrape up some money. If you say you can't, you're giving up, and the poor animal may have to die for your stubbornness. If you still refuse to help him, it's in my prayers he'll find a suitable owner who will keep track of him.
I just don't understand. You want to own a dog, but you are not ready to spend some money on the dog. You should know it is going to cost you some money when you own dog. I am not talking about fancy clothing. Expensive dog food. But you have to prepare the money you have to spend on annual shot and check up.
Yes,it's true. You have to pay a fee to get him out or they'll put him to sleep. You can always ask a friend or a family member to lend you the money you need,so you can get your dog back.If you get him back,I recomend you to install a fence in your backyard so he won't run away. This happened to my Cocker Spaniel,he would jump our 6 feet wall, until we installed a 9 foot wall.Best of luck for you and try to be more careful for your dog.Bye,
David.
yes it is true. why did you get the dog in the first place if you have no money?
animals cost money to look after if u dont have much money dont have animals its as simple as that.
is he at a kennel or a animal rescue league? if it is a kennel than i would check with the police to see what your rights are. as far as i always knew a kennel is a place for breeding dogs for sale and for people to shelter their pets for a fee when unable to be there to care for them. if it is a kennel and they kept your dog than the cost of caring for the animal is their problem. you did not put your pet in their care and they should of turned the dog over to an animal rescue league. if it is an animal rescue league you are referring to than yes they can demand a fee for return of the dog. i know the animal rescue league here will in most cases take donations instead of money. have you offered dog food instead of money? most times the shelters are in need of donations to feed all the animals they have. i know they do this where i live. as for people bashing you for the animal missing in the first place. ignore them. you did not explain how the animal got away so they do not know the situation. i myself had lost my dog at one point too. he broke his chain i had him tied on one day and got hit by a car. he did live but was it my fault he broke the chain? no. so ignore the rude responses. look into your rights as a pet owner and the possibility of food donations. if you are successful in getting your pet back i suggest you register the animal with a shelter in which you will recieve a numbered idea tag with all your information. that way in the future if the dog was to ever go missing again and is picked up they know who owns it and will call you. hope you get your dog back and good luck.
Although I have every sympathy with your predicament, you are showing what an irresponsible pet owner you are. You have become a dog owner, anyone can buy a dog, but surely you looked ahead and thought of firstly innoculation fees, food bills, other normal vet fees that might occur and what if it became ill - were you just going to ignore its health (which would be gross negligence for which you would be prosecuted). You obviously did not think it through before getting a pet.
How come he got lost so soon anyhow. Is your garden (I presume you have one) not secure? or were you walking him off the lead in the street - which again is an offence and totally irresponsible.
Your irresponsibility and foolishness has perhaps put this innocent animal's life at risk. For goodness sake, speak to family or friends, get a loan, you owe it to this animal to get it out of the kennels and then I suggest you put a free adv in a paper and find it a good, caring, responsible home where it can have a long, happy and safe life. You owe it that much for all you have put it through so far.
That is absolutely appalling, I work in kennels and we get dogs that have simply just ran off here and we give them back to the rightful owner with out cost. Yes the kennels can re home the dog after 7 day, UNLESS the owner comes back. As them about instalments etc and see what they are willing to do! If i were you i would name and shame them so people don't use them anymore!!
yes but u can take them to Court if you cant pay in time .as long as you have a suitable home to have a dog .
your not a bad dog owner it happens to lost of papal .

40% of dog oners cant ufored kennall fees .
good luck
Its a shame that you've had so many negative comments on this site regarding your situation. I'm sure you didn't lose your dog on purpose! You are obviously in the U.S as this doesn't happpen here in the UK! Approach the manager / owner of the kennels and explain your predicament, ie: that you are short of money but would dearly love to have your dog back as it means so very much to you. Ask politely if theres an arrangement you can come to whereby you pay a weekly fee to the amount you owe, perhaps backing this promise up by arranging to pay by direct debit? Have you any family members / friends that could borrow you the money and you pay them back? How about your bank manager? If he/she is an animal lover they may sympathise with your plight and loan you the money. It sounds as if this kennel has you by the short and curlies but if you can prove the dog is legally yours ( papers etc ) then surely they have no right to dispose of nor sell your property without first exhausting all other efforts to obtain the money from you. If they get funny with you, get funny back and involve the law! I hope it turns out ok for and your dog.
Glad to hear your dog has been found, but you can't blame the rescue people for wanting to charge you fees after all they have kept you dog safe and fed him, i know it sounds awful but if you can't afford to get him back you may have to resign yourself to the fact you won't get him back unless somebody can help you pay, I'm afraid dogs or any pets cost money to keep, not sure how you lost him to start with so if you get him back please make sure he doesn't get lost again.
