Filthy doggy teeth-need advice!?

So, yeah I got a new dog, and he is so great, named him cody, and he has his first groomers appt tuesday and he is geting nuetered thursday, well his teeth are dirty but the gums look healthy. Should I just have them brush his teeth at the groomer or get them thoroughly cleaned at the vet? His breath is nasty and he wont eat doggy mints.
Any recommendations? And is $75 reasonable to clean a dog's teeth?

If you are getting him nuetered I would get the teeth cleaned at the same time. He will be asleep and you will have everything done at once. Nasty breath usually means the teeth need cleaning. Enjoy your new baby.
Well you just got the dog, so a thorough check up by the vet is a good idea anyhow.. While there, he'll check the dog's teeth and make a recommendation.
If a dog has bad breath there is a reason, either bad teeth, or stomach problems, eating food that isn't good etc.. The vet visit is the best idea.
The vet could easily do it while he's out for his neutering. I'd get the vet to do it unless it looks like something a groomer could get off with a toothbrush. I think $75 is reasonable. Also, for his breath you can get dog biscuits that have parsley in them, and that really helps the bad breath.
You could try brushing them yourself (doggie toothbrushes and toothpaste can be purchased just about anywhere), OR talk to your vet about a special diet--I know that sounds crazy, but a lot of the time the bad breath is caused by tarter build up due to the dog not chewing the food good enough. I suggest Science Diet t/d. It comes in large chunks and in a way forces the dog to chew the piece at the back of their mouth. In less than a week you will see, and smell, a HUGE difference.
$75 bucks for a teeth cleaning is CHEAP!! If I were you I would get the teeth cleaned.
This will help keep his teeth in good shape.
75 sounds like a lot to me. give him a bone or a rawhide... it really helps with teeth AND breath
nylabones makes minty flavored nylabones with little dimples in it, also there's a bone called greenies they're edible and completely safe these will help also try a tooth brush with beef flavored doggie tooth paste!
$75 may be reasonable where you live because it is my understanding they have to be anestisized to do it.so your vet would have to do the job not your groomer.
you can brush your dogs teeth yourself, there is regular dog toothpaste available.no human toothpaste as it is toxic to them.
a good dry dog food and dog bones size appropriate to your pet will also clean his teeth.
his breath is bad because of the tartar.
hope this helps you.
